Hygrophila polysperma – Indian Water Star

The Indian Water Star is a fast-growing, robust stem plant and is one of the most popular aquarium plants worldwide. With its fresh, light to medium green leaves, it brings lively naturalness to any freshwater aquarium and is ideal for beginners and experienced aquascapers alike.

🌿 Characteristics:

• Growth height: approx. 20–50 cm
• Growth habit: upright, bushy with regular pruning
• Growth:  very fast
• Light requirement: low to high
• CO₂ addition: not absolutely necessary, but promotes compact growth
• Difficulty level: very easy

💧 Care & Maintenance:

Hygrophila polysperma is extremely adaptable and tolerates various water parameters. Due to its rapid growth, it helps to absorb excess nutrients and prevent algae formation – ideal for the cycling phase of an aquarium.

For dense, compact growth, regular trimming of the shoot tips is recommended. The cut cuttings can simply be reinserted into the substrate and will continue to grow without problems.

🌈 Appearance & Use:

Depending on the light intensity, the leaves can develop a slightly reddish-bronze shimmer. The Indian Water Star looks particularly beautiful in the middle to background and can be excellently combined with fine-leaved or darker plants.
